Dear Friends,
On behalf of the International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion (ICEBP), I would like to request the participation of Czech Society of Extracorporeal Circulation and Supporting Circulatory Systems.
In March 2007, we submitted a letter of introduction to your organization introducing you to this international initiative. In brief, the ICEBP seeks to incorporate evidence-based principles and practices into the practice of extracorporeal perfusion. At this time, we have thirteen member organizations (six organizations have joined since March of this year!) Organizations include: There are currently seven member organizations: 1) Australasian and New Zealand College of Perfusion, 2) Florida Perfusion Society, 3) German Society of Cardiovascular Engineering, 4) Japan Society of Extracorporeal Circulation, 7) Spanish Association of Perfucions, 8) American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion, 9) American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 10) Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, 11) European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, 12) Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland, and 13) Turkish Society of Perfusionsts.
The mission of the ICEBP is to continuously improve the delivery of care and outcomes for surgical patients through peer review of scientific publication by:
- Developing evidence based guidelines for extracorporeal circulation.
- Promoting the integration of these guidelines into clinical practice.
- Identifying gaps in the medical literature.
- Encouraging research in areas where evidence is lacking.
We have a website dedicated to sharing information about the ICEBP and its initiatives (http:www.bestpracticeperfusion.org). We encourage you to browse this website and consider joining its ranks. This website includes information about the most recent activities undertaken by each of the subcommittees.
The impact of this unique collaboration will be measured by how many international perfusion organizations we can recuit to participate. For the first time, the important issues related to improving the quality of care delivered by perfusionists around the world will be addressed irrespective of where one practices. Member organizations will have a voice in shaping the direction and pace at which these investigations, and real and lasting changes will be integrated into the perfusion community.
Of note, we have our second annual meeting titled "Best Practices in Perfusion 2007" (http://www.amsect.org/cme/bestprac/2007/index.html), to be held this year from October 4-6 in Montreal. This meeting will provide clinicians, health care research personnel and those interested in improving the practice of perfusion, with the opportunity to learn the most recent and relevant information about guidelines for cardiopulmonary bypass, creating cycles of change in your health care delivery system, transparency and public reporting, adult and pediatric clinical registries, statistical research and control theory, electronic medical records and international quality improvement initiatives.
We truly feel that the ICEBP is a grass-roots initiative. This effort, to be truly successful, requires additional support through the contributions of member organizations. As part of joining this initiative, member organizations are asked to contribute a nominal fee of $250.00 US. Through this membership, each organization will additionally be asked to nomiate a member to the Steering Committee, as well as others to the various subcommittees. If you organization agrees to participate in this exciting initiative, we will send your organization a formal request for payment of this annual fee.
On behalf of the Steering and Executive Committee, I appreciate your organization's consideration. Please feel free to contact me via email (donald.likosky@dartmouth.edu) or by phone (603) 653-3546 if you have any questions.
Sincerely Yours,
Donald S. Likosky, PhD
